In Black and White
An exciting exploration of color and sound, featuring music by Debussy, Gershwin, and Copland.
Approximately 90 minutes long – includes intermission
The piano is an instrument of stark contrasts: loud and soft, high and low, black and white; in this, our second piano-duo extravaganza, prize-winning pianist Harumi Flesher and Artistic Director Jerrod Wendland will showcase some of the incredible variety and beauty that the instrument is capable of. On this journey, we’ll meet composers like Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, and Scottish composer Judith Weir; we’ll also hear experiments in Latin rhythms (in Copland’s Danzon Cubano), Ragtime (by Seattle native William Bolcom), and Jazz (in Gershwin’s seldom-heard “I’ve Got Rhythm” Variations). Join Annas Bay as we explore a unique world of color and sound!
Highlights to include:
- Aaron Copland’s Danzon Cubano
- Claude Debussy’s En Blanc et Noir
- William Bolcom’s The Serpent’s Kiss
